In rural and semi-urban India, acute diarrhea is a leading cause of childhood illness. Yet, clinicians have no rapid, affordable tool to determine whether an infection is bacterial or viral.

Without immediate diagnostic support, doctors default to prescribing broad-spectrum antibiotics to protect against potential complications. This empirical prescribing fuels the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)—one of the WHO's top global health threats.

To bridge this critical tools gap, we designed DiaCue—a point-of-care rapid test that gives clinicians actionable answers in minutes, shifting the paradigm from reactive guessing to targeted treatment.

Found a tools gap, not a knowledge gap

During the BIRAC SPARSH Fellowship, our founding team embedded in primary and community health centers (PHCs and CHCs) across rural Odisha. They discovered that doctors possessed ample clinical knowledge but lacked point-of-care diagnostic tools to act on it.
